What he looks like
Built solid, like a brick outhouse. Dark brown hair, kept cut short and a brown goatee. He wears...whatever he has on hand, so long as it's comfortable.
What he can (and can't) do
Abilities/specialties: He's Jayne Cobb! A man of many talents when it comes to guns and fighting, fighting with guns, fighting without them. Just plain ol' fighting. He has experience running blackmarket merchandise and smuggling, a little bodyguard duty on the side. And shooting. A lot of shooting.
Disabilities/limitations/fears: ...he's Jayne Cobb! ...and getting spaced. And Reavers. And getting shot. Not getting paid. Mostly Reavers.
Who he is
Jayne has no dreams, other than to stay alive, live in relative comfort (being hungry isn't relative or comfort) and maybe one day get the Big Payoff. He is easily rattled but manages to stay cool when it comes down to armed confrontation. His confidence is his biggest asset. It could also be considered his biggest liability when he's tangling morality with money.
Reavers are his biggest fear. They represent an uncontrollable unknown. Jayne always tries to know what's going on, even if he doesn’t understand it. Also, they tie in with his fear of dying in a way not considered 'manly'. Now, Jayne can't really tell you what a 'manly' way to die is, but he knows what isn't when he sees it.
A mercenary through-and-through, it does tend to color his perceptions a tad. He's loyal but only when he's getting paid regularly. Better money (and the assurance of) will give him pause and if it's enough, he will jump.
He doesn't like it when it's implied he's not smart. Sadly, he isn't smart enough to know when those more quick-witted than he are implying such. When he does catch on, he becomes rather bull-headed about it. The survival streak in him is strong, though, and that is where his wits serve him best. He can make fast judgment calls in situations under stress.
Just…not so good with the thinking things through if he's give time to.
As his personal bonds deepen, though, loyalty to those begins to trump his desire for money. Perhaps that could be considered a weakness, he would certainly think so, yet he still allows for the attachments to build and grow.
