How do I post in this community?

Posting in YO_comms

1. Is open to all players and unmoderated.
2. Should be done in a form that approximates the communications medium as closely as possible. Obviously, you don't need to post a graphic of a bottle with a message in it if you happen to be sending a message in a bottle. You could, if you wanted.
3. Posts may be locked to individuals, groups, or open to all. They may be directed to people who can't answer, as well, ie, people outside of Gotham.
4. Should be written/spoken ICly.
5. If they are open to multiple response, ie a group email threads may be interrupted without permission. However, threads within a group email, for example, may become locked by using [Locked to: Character Name] in the subject line.

What kind of communications technology can my character use?

During the cataclysm, all communications technology is disrupted. This includes magic spells. Once the aftershocks have finished, radio and magic will be restored. Oracle and others will be working on restoring communications.

Prior to restoration of communications technology

1. There will be no phones of any kind.
2. There will be no wireless devices other than radio.
3. After checkpoints are established, walkie-talkie type radios will be provided to "aid workers" (anyone who is or pretends to be).
4. Television signal will be used for emergency broadcast only.
5. Magic spell communication will work with some blitzing from time to time. You should use the blitzing to keep this from being too effective.

After the restoration of communications technology

This will happen very slowly, by increments. Power consumption will be rationed and rolling blackout will be common. People will be encouraged to make solar-powered devices and gather together for public use.

1. Land phone lines will be restored first. Since lots of people won't have them, there will be lines for public phones. Abandoned houses and buildings with landlines may be claimed by the 'authorities' and designated for telephones. You will never be able to call out of Gotham, so those lines will eventually go down.
2. Daily and nightly news radio will be restored first with news television following. If your pup would want to be involved in that, contact the mods.
3. Cinemas, sports bars, etc. will become very popular again since individual homes won't be allotted enough power for most frivolous entertainment uses. DVDs will become a very hot commodity. Once there's time, people can begin making television shows and the like, but there will never be a new episode of Leverage for Gothamites (*sob*) or anything else.
4. Once Oracle restores the internet, she'll put up an IM client like IRC. Other pups can start making fancier versions once life is restored. This is a long way off.
5. Wireless/mobile devices will eventually be restored as part of play. At some point when everything else is done, some of our resident geniuses can build and launch a satellite or two. This won't happen for a long long while.
